Track and field: Osakis boys and girls finish top four in Morris

The Marv Meyer Invite took place in Morris on Tuesday night that featured five area teams. With the incoming blizzard looking to postpone outdoor events in the near future, athletes from Osakis, Minnewaska, Parkers Prairie, Ashby-Brandon-Evansville and West Central Area all travelled to get one more meet in.

Osakis had a nice showing on Tuesday. Of the 13 teams competing, the boys finished in fourth while the girls placed third.

“With the cold weather, we were trying to minimize injury risk by limiting the number of events the kids competed in,” Osakis head coach Lee VanNyhuis said. “At those temperatures, you don’t get your best performances. We’ve only had a couple of practices on the track so far. We just have to be patient with the process and keep working, especially on the jumps.”

Osakis senior Tianna Stanek took home first place in three different events. She ran a 12.71 in the 100-meter dash, vaulted nine feet in the pole vault and was the final leg of the 4x200 meter relay that ran a winning time of 1:58.04.

Elizabeth Pahl placed first in the shot put and the discus. Her shot put throw went 37-feet, 2-inches. Pahl sailed the discus 112 feet. Ben Paulson took home the boys discus title with his throw of 124 feet.

Osakis’ Jacob Wielenberg won the boys shot put with this throw of 39-feet, 4-inches. Jacob Backes rounded out the Osakis winners by taking the pole vault (12-06).
