The Osakis boys and girls golf teams opened up the season on Tuesday as the boys finished fifth out of six programs and the girls were second out of five team scores at the Central Minnesota Conference meet hosted by Howard Lake-Winsted-Waverly-Maple Lake.

The Osakis boys were led by freshman Logan Lipke with a 49. Senior Tanner Mathews and sophomore Jason Sommars each shot a 52. Freshman Noah Dirkes carded a 53, and sophomore Jacob Uhl (58) and senior Owen Rajdl (62) finished off the lineup.

Alex Poster of Pierz won the boys meet individually and led his team to the win as the senior carded the lone round in the 30s with a 39.

Pierz made it a clean sweep in the team competition as the Pioneers shot a 199 to win the girls meet. Osakis shot a 207 behind a medalist round from junior Lexi Dirkes of 43.

Osakis sophomore Kadyn Triebenbach shot a 49, freshman Katie Helm a 52 and junior Marissa Reilly rounded out the Silverstreaks’ scoring with a 63. Eighth-grader Madison Lipke also played varsity for Osakis and shot a 64.

“The players weren't real pleased with their scores overall, but it was a good start to the season,” Osakis head coach Chris Grove said. “We have had very limited outdoor practice. Monday was the first day we were able to play nine holes in practice. It was great to see Lexi as the medalist. She works hard at her game, and it is nice to see that hard work pay off. Logan didn't let the nerves of playing in his first varsity meet get to him. He put up a good score on a course with tough greens to lead the boys' team.”

The Osakis girls went from playing the conference opener to playing in a loaded field of bigger schools at the Alexandria Golf Club on Wednesday.

The Silverstreaks shot a 398 in the 18-hole meet and finished 10th out of 12 teams. Dirkes again led the way with an 86. Triebenbach shot a 93, Helm a 101, Reilly a 118 and Lipke rounded out the lineup with a 128.
