The Osakis girls golf team wrapped up its season on day two of the Section 6AA meet at the Blackberry Ridge Golf Course in Sartell on Tuesday by posting a couple of its best rounds of the season at the section meet.
Osakis played in the pre-section 6AA meet on May 6 and finished sixth as a team with a 418. Almost a month later, the Silverstreaks improved drastically to shoot a 388 on day one before going even lower on day two with a 381.
That 769 left Osakis in third place behind Pierz at 764, while Albany secured its spot at the Class AA state tournament by winning with a 734. St. Cloud Cathedral was the final team to make it to day two of the section tournament as the Crusaders shot a 793 (399, 394).
“I'm just very proud of the girls,” Osakis head coach Chris Grove said. “They had a goal and they worked hard to get here. The way they encourage each other is another big reason why they made it to day two.”
Lexi Dirkes and Kadyn Triebenbach led the way for the Silverstreaks and both qualified for the individual state tournament. Dirkes finished second overall with rounds of 90 and 81 to shoot a 171. Brooke Lemke of Albany shot a 164 to finish with medalist honors. Triebenbach was fifth with a 182 after rounds of 97 and 85.
“They have worked hard, played well, and are very deserving,” Grove said of his top two players in the lineup.
Katie Helm shot a two-day 205 with rounds of 97 and 108 to finish 20th overall. Marissa Reilly was 25th at 211 (104, 107) and Madison Lipke rounded out the lineup in 30th place after rounds of 137 and 127 (264).
“Lexi was dialed in from the start and finished the first nine only one over par,” Grove said of Dirkes’ second round. “Kadyn was on her game and had a consistent, great round. Katie and Marissa had such great days (Monday) that they didn't leave themselves room for improvement. They did a nice job of turning in good rounds. Madison gained more experience and took a bunch of strokes off of her score.”
Dirkes and Triebenbach will now turn their attention to the state meet June 11 and 12. The Class AA tournament will be played at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan.
