Baseball: Infanger, Rost dominate on the mound in Osakis' sweep

The Osakis baseball team swept a doubleheader in Long Prairie Thursday afternoon to stay undefeated through four games.

The Silverstreaks won a 4-3 nailbiter against the Staples-Motley Cardinals. Osakis also beat Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, 10-4, in Prairie Conference play.

Hunter Infanger got the start on the mound for Osakis against Staples-Motley. He threw all seven innings without giving up an earned run. He allowed just two hits and struck out 14.

"Hunter pitched one of the best games I have seen out of an Osakis pitcher in my time as coach," Osakis head coach Shad Schmidt said. "It was a nice team win against a really solid Staples team."

Osakis jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. The Cardinals were able to erase the early lead with a three-run frame in the bottom of the third inning. That was aided by two Silverstreak errors.

Osakis answered back in the top of the sixth with a two-run double from Luke Staloch. Heading into the last inning, the game was tied 3-3.

Luke Imdieke led off the top of the seventh with a line-drive hit through the middle. His work on the basepaths led to Osakis' go-ahead run. Imdieke stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A second wild pitch gave Osakis the lead late in the game.

"Imdieke got us that run by himself," Schmidt said. "That's what we expect out of Luke being our leadoff guy."

Infanger capped off the complete-game win by striking out the side in order in the bottom of the seventh inning.

At the plate, Staloch went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Infanger went 1-for-1 with three walks and three stolen bases.

Offense came a little easier against LPGE. Osakis scored 10 runs in the first four innings. Carter Rost hit a two-run triple in the first inning. Mason Moore had two RBI singles, as well.

Rost was the starting pitcher. He didn't allow an earned run in six innings and surrendered just one hit. Rost struck out five batters and walked only two.

"We really kept the pressure on their defense with having runners on base all but one inning," Schmidt said. "Carter pitched another good game for us, and he helped himself at the plate with some big hits."

Osakis is 4-0 heading into a Monday night game at Foley next week.
