The Osakis baseball team believes it has the experience and talent to compete for a long playoff run this season, and the Silverstreaks are piling up the wins to position themselves well in the seeding when it comes to tournament time.

Osakis wrapped up a 3-0 week last Friday night be breezing past Browerville in a 12-2 game that ended after five innings. The Silverstreaks are now 11-2 and 7-0 in the Prairie Conference after also beating Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 6-1 earlier in the week.

“The guys are barreling the ball up right now. A lot of credit to some of the power numbers we are seeing goes to coach (Bill) Infanger and Jared Ziesmer, our strength coach for the school.  Our at bats are quality and we are being patient for pitches we can drive.”

Osakis methodically pulled away from the Tigers with two runs in the first, one in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Hunter Infanger ended the game by the 10-run rule with a two-run base hit in the fifth that scored Austin Lennes and Luke Imdieke.

Infanger was 3-for-4 at the plate and also got the pitching win with seven strikeouts. Freshman Bauer Klimek had a 3-for-3 day with a run, two stolen bases and three RBIs. Imdieke hit a two-run home run and scored four times, while Waylon Muenzhuber finished with three RBIs.

“Waylon and Bauer, our eight and nine hitters, had a great night at the plate,” Schmidt said. “Bauer continues to play really well stepping in for Jarret Seela. Hunter pitched a heck of a game for us again and our defense was pretty good.”

Schmidt said if he had to search for things to clean up it would be fixing a few things in the field.

“But we also had great plays made by Luke Staloch and Bauer Klimek,” he said. “We’re coming together nicely as team and still have room to improve and bring it all up a notch. We need to remain focused on our goals and continue to make strides to where we want to be.”

Osakis has three more games on the schedule this week. The Silverstreaks are at St. John’s Prep on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before welcoming in Royalton at the same time on Thursday. Pierz then comes to Osakis on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
