Girls Basketball: Osakis struggles offensively in road loss

Alexis Johanson

The Osakis girls basketball team had a hard time getting shots to fall Friday night against the Mayer Lutheran Crusaders (5-4) in the Eden Valley-Watkins Holiday Tournament.  The Silverstreaks fell to 2-7 after the 48-37 loss.

Junior guard Alexis Johanson led Osakis in scoring with 16 points. The Silverstreaks had a good game defensively, snagging 26 rebounds and collecting five steals.

“Our girls did a nice job of defending in the post and rebounded well,” head coach Pat Kalpin said.  “I thought we played well throughout the game. We executed offensively, but shots didn't fall like they did the night before.”

Osakis’ rough night on the offensive side of the floor resulted in a 30 percent shooting night from the field. The Silverstreaks made 13-43 field goal attempts.

“We were happy with the effort today but unfortunately the final results don't always show that,” Kalpin said. “This team continues to work hard and keeps improving. As a coaching staff, we are happy with the efforts and the strides this team is making and will get back after it after Christmas break."

Senior guard Tianna Stanek was named to the All-Tournament Holiday Team.

Osakis will travel to play Sauk Centre after Christmas Break to on January 3.
