The Osakis boys basketball team finds itself ranked eighth in the Dec. 11 Class AA polls through Minnesota Basketball News, and the Silverstreaks are putting teams away like a top-10 team.

Osakis cruised to 5-0 on Friday night with another easy win, this time beating Browerville-Eagle Valley (3-3) 73-36.

“Great atmosphere in the gym tonight with the band, youth night, and a rival team that travels well,” Osakis head coach Matt Hoelscher said. “Our guys did a great job creating the tempo early in the game by creating steals and getting out in transition. We passed well in the open floor and against their zone. We had some lapses with weak passes and not finishing strong at the rim, but overall our guys had great energy and they got the young crowd into it.”

The Silverstreaks shot 46 percent (29-62), including 8-of-26 from three. They held the Tigers to just 13 first-half points to build up a 38-point lead by the break.

Daniel Savageau had 27 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Bauer Klimek had 10 points. Kobie Lara chipped in nine points, five rebounds and three steals, and Luke Staloch had a full line of nine points, five assists, seven rebounds, two steals and a block.

“We want our players to promote a culture that gets the younger kids interested and excited about basketball, and this group is doing a great job of that,” Hoelscher said.
