The Osakis girls basketball team fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a 66-38 loss to Mayer Lutheran at the Eden Valley-Watkins Tournament on Thursday.

The Crusaders (9-1) led 41-19 by the break. They hit on just 35.3% of their field goals, but got up 68 shots and held Osakis to 25.9% shooting.

“This was a game that got away from us early in the contest,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “Mayer Lutheran has a very good basketball team that gave us different looks defensively. With that being said, I thought we moved the ball and took good shots. Unfortunately, those shots didn't fall for us.”

Alexis Johanson had a team-high 10 points for the Silverstreaks. Maddie Johanson added eight points and Mara VanNyhuis had seven. Emma Lade led Mayer Lutheran with 14 points and Lexi Schermann had 10 on a night when 11 different players scored for the Crusaders.

“I credit the girls for working extremely hard throughout this game,” Kalpin said. “As the game went on, I thought we settled down and played well, especially in the second half. We were able to adjust and try something new offensively and the girls did a great job of executing. It's always good to see girls adjust to things. That's an area that this team has improved on and will continue to improve on as the season goes on."
