The Osakis girls basketball team wrapped up its two games at the Eden Valley-Watkins Tournament on Friday by playing the host school as the Eagles (5-3) pulled away in the second half for a 63-43 win.

The Silverstreaks (2-5) were within 25-20 at the half, but Eden Valley-Watkins put up 38 second-half points to create some distance.

"Our girls fought hard today,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “Eden Valley-Watkins has a very aggressive basketball team. The girls had to adjust to the flow of the game, and early on, we fell behind. Midway through the first half, I thought we settled in and did a nice job of getting back into the game. The second half, we weren't able to get into much rhythm offensively as they kept us off balance.”

The Eagles showed off their depth with four players in double figures. Halle Jansen had 16, while Brielle Kuechle, Sawyer Kuechle and Whitney Jansen all had 12.

Maddie and Alexis Johanson led Osakis with nine points each. Maddie added four rebounds, four assists and three blocks and finished as a member of the all-tournament team.

The Silverstreaks went 0-2 in Eden Valley, but they faced a couple of winning programs after also getting 10-1 Mayer Lutheran in the opener.

“This was a good tourney for us with some really good basketball teams,” Kalpin said. “What we take out of the tourney are the positive things we did well and continue to focus on the little things that we need to improve on. As we get back to practice after Christmas, we will continue to focus on playing together and working hard collectively."
