The Osakis girls basketball team enters this week with a 10-11 record after splitting a couple games last week against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle and Parkers Prairie.
The Panthers are always a good Class A program and nothing has changed this winter with Parkers Prairie sitting at 14-6 after a 60-49 win over the Silverstreaks on Friday night.
“I thought the girls played really hard,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “Offensively, we took care of the ball, took good shots and shared the ball. Defensively, I thought overall we did a nice job, unfortunately they got hot from the 3-point line late in the game, which helped them put the game away. It wasn't a lack of effort or a mistake, it was simply them hitting shots when they needed and us not hitting the shots.”
The Panthers put up 36 points after halftime to secure the win. It was tied 24-24 at the half.
Osakis shot an overall better percentage, but Parkers Prairie hit 12-of-32 threes, compared to a 6-of-19 night from three for the Silverstreaks.
Faith Alberts led the charge for the Panthers as the junior forward had a game-high 26 points. Megan Blake added 17 points, and Emily Benzinger had 14.
Maddie Johanson led three Osakis players in double figures with 16 on 8-of-14 shooting. She added nine rebounds, while Mara VanNyhuis had 12 points, and Alexa Lien finished with 10.
Osakis’ upcoming schedule includes its final game in the Prairie Conference on Thursday night against Browerville-Eagle Valley at 7:30 in Osakis. That will be for the league title with both teams entering the week at 6-1 in Prairie play.
