The Osakis girls basketball team lost a second straight close game to start the week when Benson held on for a 64-58 win on Tuesday night.

The Braves (14-9) overcame a two-point deficit at the break by putting up 35 points after halftime. Benson shot 54.8% overall, including 18-of-29 from inside the arch.

“After being down 14-0 to begin the game, the girls fought back and were able to take a lead into halftime,” Osakis head coach Pat Kalpin said. “Maddie Johanson got the run going for us by having a huge first half with 15 points. Once that started, the other girls got going as well. It was fun to watch us respond the way we did after the slow start.”

The Silverstreaks put three players in double figures as Johanson led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Mara VanNyhuis had 14 points and six rebounds, and Alexis Johanson finished with 16 points.

Benson got 21 points from Kaitlyn Berreau. Claire Ricard added 20 on 9-of-13 shooting, and Abigail Lundebrek gave the Braves 10 points.

“The second half was back and forth for a bit, but we went on a scoring drought, which allowed Benson to get a lead,” Kalpin said. “We had the game within three points with chances to get it to one on a couple possessions, but didn't hit the shots. Again, the big thing is they are creating opportunities to win these games and that's all we can ask as a coaching staff. Many positive things to take out of this game tonight."
