The Osakis cross country teams knew they would be challenged during the 46th annual Lions Meet of Champions in Alexandria on Saturday afternoon, and that proved to be true under cool and cloudy skies at the Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center.

The boys’ field featured Buffalo (eighth), Minnetonka (11th), Mounds View (third), Red Wing (sixth), St. Paul Highland Park (seventh) and Stillwater (fourth) as teams ranked in the top 12 of the Class AA field. The girls’ race added seventh-ranked Willmar, 10th-ranked Marshall, sixth-ranked Stillwater and 12th-ranked White Bear Lake to the mix.

Whichever team came away with the win would have to earn in, and that’s what Stillwater did on the girls’ side with 62 points and Mounds View on the boys’ side with 64. Osakis was 18th in the boys race in the 19-team field, while the girls finished 19th.

Carter Grove led all Osakis runners as he finished 72nd overall in the loaded field by coming across in a time of 17:35.2. Daniel Savageau was next for the Silverstreaks in 91st place (18:02.6), while William Alverson rounded out the Osakis boys’ top three in 113th place with a time of 19:01.5.

Brently Boogaard was 121st (19:27.4) and Brandon Boogaard was 123rd (20:00.6) to round out the scoring, and Joey Van Acker (125th, 20:23.2) and Logan Grove (128th, 21:03.9) rounded out the lineup.

Grace Oeltjen paced the Osakis girls in 113th place with a time of 22:27.6. They ran as a pack as Rachel Walsh (115th, 22:51.2) and Destiny Dorman (116th, 22:51.4) finished right behind Oeltjen. Madison Nystrom (129th, 24:50.4) and Hailey Hagedon (130th, 25:06.6) rounded out the scoring, while Natalie Schlosser (132nd, 27:17.5) and Julianna Collins (133rd, 27:19.4) also ran varsity for Osakis.
