Softball: Osakis drops its first league game to Browerville-EV
The Osakis softball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Tuesday night but fell short in a 6-2 game against Prairie Conference rival Browerville-Eagle Valley.
The Tigers put up crooked numbers with a three-run third and two runs in each of the fifth and sixth to secure the win.
“When you play good teams, and Browerville is a good team, small things become big things,” Osakis head coach John Stigman said. “We had a couple of small things turn into something big enough to turn a game.”
Jaden Klimek had a nice game at the plate for Osakis with three hits and two RBIs. The Silverstreaks’ only other hit against B-EV’s Marissa Callahan came from Shea Olson.
The Tigers had six hits off of Klimek and freshman Hayleigh Niehoff as the two shared pitching duties for Osakis. Three of the six runs the Tigers scored were unearned after three errors by the Silverstreaks in the field.
“We are not far from being the team we believe we can be,” Stigman said. “To get there, we will have to work on those little things. This team has so much potential. We just need to keep working and refining the little details that can take good teams to their next level.”
The Silverstreaks are now 1-1 and 0-1 in the Prairie Conference.
Osakis is trying to get a game in tonight, Thursday, against Staples-Motley but exactly where that will take place is up in the air as of Thursday morning.
Wet weather continues to cause disruptions for teams. The game for Osakis is scheduled to be at home at 4:30. If field conditions are unplayable in Osakis, the two teams will try to play the game in Staples.
