Volleyball: Silverstreaks rebound with 3-0 sweep

The Osakis volleyball team kept Swanville on its heels Thursday night, and the Silverstreaks turned it into a 3-0 sweep in Osakis.

“These girls started strong tonight. Things really seemed to click,” Silverstreaks head coach Kirsten Wessel said. “Our passers worked hard to get our setter the ball, and she did a nice job of spreading out Swanville's blockers by getting the ball to several hitters. She kept the defense guessing.”

However, the contributions came from all across the court.

“Our middle hitters also do a great job of keeping the blockers guessing by coming in for strong, fake swings,” Wessel said. “It gives our outside hitters opportunities to swing against one blocker or a middle blocker (who is) getting there late.”

The Bulldogs made Osakis work for it late, but the Silverstreaks managed 25-19, 25-20 and 27-25 wins to lock up the sweep.

The victory came just two days after Osakis had a 2-0 lead slip into a 3-2 loss against Browerville-Eagle Valley.

“As coaches, we are very happy to see these girls bounce back from a difficult loss on Tuesday,” Wessel said. “The girls played very well together, defensively and offensively. It was nice to see a variety of players contribute on offense. Every hitter had some nice kills.”

Individually, Jacey Larson paced the Silverstreaks with 11 kills, while Laynee Hartshorn (10) and Tianna Stanek (nine) followed close behind. Elli Clasemann racked up 38 assists, while Megan Peikert tallied team highs with three aces and 17 digs. Kylie Anderson followed with 12 digs, and Maddie Johanson finished with two blocks.

Osakis will be back in action at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Upsala.
