The Alexandria wrestling team saw two tight duals go the wrong way for it on Tuesday night as the Cardinals dropped a 37-35 match to Pierz and a 45-29 match to Eden Valley-Watkins.

“We were in a good position to win both of these duals, but our opponents were able to turn the tables in the third period of a few matches that ultimately led to our demise,” Alexandria head coach Aldon Struchen said.

Ryan Borris highlighted the match against Eden Valley-Watkins with a 4-3 win over seventh-ranked Taylor Ludwig at 138 pounds. Borris, AJ Sparr (126), Cole Vatnsdal (138) and Cody Richardson (170) all had two wins on the night.

Ramiro Villanueva and Tate Runge added forfeit wins against Pierz. Blaze Nelson got a forfeit win at 113 against Eden Valley-Watkins, and Kelly Johnson pinned his man at 120 pounds in just 43 seconds in that match.

“We will turn up our conditioning and third-period focus down the stretch as we are now just two weeks away from postseason wrestling,” Struchen said.
